What is CursorXP Free? Why should I install it?
CursorXP is a cursor enhancement for WindowsXP and Windows 2000. It
is Freeware. It means it doesn't expire
and you don't have to register to continue to use it.
CursorXP offers the following features more than the standard
cursors:
- Full alpha blending support (you can enjoy transparency,
antialiasing, shadow, etc).
- Full control over the cursor shadow. You can configure it through
4 options: sharpness, darkness, height, angle.
- Extra cursor templates: CursorXP supports separated resize cursors
(i.e. you can have Left and Right resize instead of a single
Horizontal resize).
- Cursor stated: CursorXP cursors have normal and pressed states.
This improves the look and the feedback.
- Easy full themes packaging and distribution. To load a theme you
can simply double-click a .CurXPTheme file that contains everything
needed.
- It comes bundled with 5 outstanding themes. A lot of other themes
are also available here.
What is CursorXP Plus?
CursorXP Plus is the enhanced version of CursorXP Free. It has
several extra features. Be sure to give a look at the
CursorXP Plus page with screenshots, that
contains a full description.
Will CursorXP work
on Windows 95, 98, NT or ME?
No. It requires
certain visual APIs that only exist on Windows 2000 and XP.
How do I install
CursorXP themes?
CursorXP themes have .CurXPTheme extension. If you downloaded a
theme with this extension, you can just double-click it from
Explorer to load it. Alternatively you can manually add it to your
themes: open the CursorXP configuration dialog,
choose "Browse" as your cursor and it'll open up a browse dialog.
Look for files with .curxptheme on your drive.
If the theme you downloaded has a .zip extension instead of a
.CurXPTheme extension
you can extract it: if it contains
.CurXPTheme, that's the
actual theme file. If it contains a .ini file and several other
image files, it means that the .zip is a .CurXPTheme renamed. In
this case, just rename the .zip to .CurXPTheme and finally load this
file into CursorXP.
Will CursorXP slow
down my system?
Short
answer: no.
Long answer: For most
cursors, CursorXP cursors will behave at the same speed as a
standard Windows cursor that have the limited 2k/XP
shadow. The difference is that the Windows
cursors are not customizable, the CursorXP cursors are fully
customizable in size, color, frames, shadow, etc., but their
performance is the same. Though, since CursorXP cursors have a lot
more options than standard cursors, you could load an huge cursor
with tons of frames animating at 50fps. In this case that graphic
had to be loaded somewhere, but still, it will hardly take more than
a few megs of memory. Instead, the CPU consumption should be always
unnoticeable and comparable to the one of standard cursors.
How do I create CursorXP themes, CursorXP Plus
trails and special effects?
You
don't need a separated theme editor to make CursorXP themes. You can
easily use the editing features built in the CursorXP configuration
dialog to create new themes, modify and save them.
Be sure you read the CursorXP guide.
