What does a 'Beta' mean ?

Currently the feature set of DesktopX is still under construction, and functionality is growing at an amazing rate. Typically 'Beta' software will still contain certain bugs that need ironing out. It is fair to say however that DesktopX is more stable than the majority of released software on most system setups !

Getting help

As with all other Stardock software the user community is vibrant and friendly. There are two areas where you can frequently get rapid assistance with any queries that you have:

1. IRC Check out the #stardock chatroom using any EFnet server.
2. Newsgroups The DesktopX newsgroup is regularly visited by both new users and experts alike. Go to it

Beware - if any of the following apply to you, tread carefully.

  • Have no sense of humour
  • Are not willing to help new users
  • Criticise without being constructive
  • Make personal attacks on individuals
  • Rip off Stardock software

Starting DesktopX

The installation method will vary depending on whether you are working with the standalone or Object Desktop version of DesktopX.

If you are using the standalone DX, it will have it's own installer, and will create a DesktopX icon in your Start Menu. To run DesktopX simply launch the program using this icon.

If you are an Object Desktop user you can download the latest version of DesktopX using the component manager. You wil need to ensure that Beta components are visible for download, by selecting an appropriate option from the dropdown list that appears on the download screen. This will create a DesktopX icon in the Object Desktop program group. To run DesktopX simply launch the program using this icon.
