This section allows you to do a lot of the basics you will want to do in DesktopX.

The first thing you will see is 'Theme information'.This is where the author can enter text describing the theme.

This is also a convenient point to display any credits and thanks that are owed where you have used components that were developed by others.

Themes

You can also browse your hard drive or connect to the Internet to find some more. This link will take you to the Stardock DesktopX library. You can also find themes at Wincustomize.

Creating a new theme is really easy. Clicking the 'New Theme' button brings up the dialogue on the left which allows you to choose which items you want to reset, and which you want to leave as they are.

Theme objects are the objects that exist in the current theme.
The work area is the desktop area available to applications, which DesktopX can reduce
You can choose to use the Explorer taskbar or hide it.
Wallpaper settings can be retained from the current theme or you can return to the Windows default settings.

Persistent objects are those that remain loaded when you change themes. If you want any persistant objects in the current theme to automatically be placed in your new theme, check this box.

You can keep existing theme comments, though this is unlikely.
The final option allows you to choose whether you want to display desktop icons or not.

Objects

Importing objects is very easy, infact it uses the same dialogue at that shown above for loading themes.

Creating a new object from the button on this dialogue will create a default object on your desktop for you to manipulate.

Selecting 'Browse' will open up the Object Browser. This shows you all the objects in the theme and their key properties. This is particualrly useful for editing and deleting objects, as they are not always visible for you to easily select them.
