++STELLAR FRONTIER AND LAG++ Stellar Frontier's lag issues are a function of its high object count on screen during a game and its fast pace. That's just too much data to exchange in real time over internet hops. Any given connection will travel over an average of 12 to 20 'hops' on the internet between player and nexus. These hops will always add up to a half a second (or more!) of delay on the leg from each player to the nexus. Think about round-trip updates, and you have lag. Only re-inventing the internet (not likely) or re-inventing the game (impossible) or building game scenarios (mods) with low lag characteristics will make things different or better. The duel arena (the one with two races and one ship and only a few, slow-firing weapons) is the fastest version of SF ever made. I hope this helps you enjoy the game more. Anyone can host a session of the duel arena, even over dial-up, at an enjoyable pace. Anyone who wants to play a large game scenario with lots of planets and asteroids and ships and weapons needs to play with an elevated desire to enjoy a game that illustrates some of the basic features of special relativity - which holds that reality is different for every observer... -Anaxis ================================================================================= *WEBMASTER'S NOTE*: The "duel arena" referred to by Anaxis above is downloadable @ http://www.stardock.com/products/sf/mod_library.html along with a whole host of other fun and enjoyable mods.
