Getting
Support
The
best most effective way of getting support is to visit the Stardock
news group: news://news.stardock.com/stardock.winstyles
Questions:
Q:
How exactly does WinStyles work?
A:
An XPTheme is essentially an archive that contains several
different skins, packages, and themes inside of it. WinStyles reads
this file and then sends a message to the appropriate program to
apply the individual skin or theme. WinStyles doesn't apply the
individual skins itself, it relies on the programs installed on your
system.
Q:
What is the goal of WinStyles?
A:
WinStyles was designed with Stardock's Object Desktop in mind.
The idea being to allow users of Object Desktop to create an overall
desktop environment using the various components of Object Desktop
(WindowBlinds, DesktopX, IconPackager, etc.). In this way, Object
Desktop becomes a unified way of transforming Windows. While
creating it, it was decided that it would help users if they could
also treat non-Stardock software as part of an overall environment
as well. This is why Stardock has made available WinStyles stand
alone. Supporting non-Stardock software can be fairly time consuming
since we have to learn how best to work with all those different
programs. Each one has its own way of tracking what themes to apply.
This is why one has to register WinStyles (or buy Object Desktop) in
order to get support for those programs.
Q:
Does WinStyles take up memory or resources?
A:
No, WinStyles has no memory resident programs.
Q:
Do I need to download those programs listed in Supported Apps?
A:
You only need to download the programs that you want to have
themed by WinStyles. For instance, a theme may include a half dozen
different skins and themes in it, but you may only be interested in
having your wallpaper changed and your WindowBlinds skin changed and
maybe some icons applied. Thus you would only need
WindowBlinds and IconPackager to do that. WinStyles would simply
ignore the other skins and themes if they're not installed.
Q:
Do I need a credit card to purchase Stardock's software?
A:
No. You can send a check or money order. Read the Sales
FAQ for specifics.
