Question:

? Can I selectively install and uninstall components in Object Desktop?

Answer:

! YES! Object Desktop uses IBM's software installer, which allows for each component of Object Desktop to be seperately installed or unistalled.

Question:

? How do I temporarily disable Object Desktop?

Answer:

! Object Desktop can be temporarily disabled by preventing its .DLL files from being loaded. You can do this by 1) booting to a command line prompt and renaming the \OBJDESK directory to \OBJTEMP or 2) removing the \OBJDESK path from the PATH, LIBPATH and DPATH statements in your config.sys.

Question:

? I accidentally deleted my Control Center. How can I get it back?

Answer:

! With Object Desktop v1.5 or higher we have provided a package file that contains all the default objects for Object Desktop. This file is located in the PACKAGES folder that is shadowed to the Object Desktop folder. Open the package file and expand the tree view to located the Control Center object. Then simply right click on it and chose the restore option. A new Control Center will be added to your Object Desktop Folder. With v1.0.x in the OBJDESK directory is a command line utility (OBJDSK.CMD) which can be used to recreate the objects.

Example: OBJDSK /CC will recreate and regester the Control Center object.

Run OBJDSK.CMD to obtain a list of the required parameters. This command is available in v1.5 and Professional.
