Trouble Shooting

Question:

? Solving System Hangs

Answer:

!

If your system is hanging and you feel it is due to Object Desktop please try the following to help you and us solve the problem.

  • Add the following lines in your CONFIG.SYS to turn on error trapping:

    SUPPRESSPOPUPS=C

    SET OBJD_LOG=AUTO

When these commands are activated and your system generates and error, it will attempt to write the errors to the files POPUPLOG.OS2 (written to your C: drive) and OBJDTRAP.LOG (written to your OS/2 boot drive). The information in these files can be extremely helpful in determining what program is causing the problem and where at in the program. Please send us these files and a detailed description of the problem.

  • Try to eliminate the problem or narrow it down by closing all other applications. If you have other WorkPlace Shell enhancements installed, try uninstalling them to see if the problem goes away, or until the problem is determined.

  • If you are running Warp 3 with FP16-FP18, and have the Control Center running with Virtual Desktops, and you are experiencing system hangs, add the following line to your config.sys to work around OS/2's multiple window position PMMERGE trap.

    SET OBJD_DISABLEFASTMOVE=1

  • If you are still experiencing problems and cannot determine the problem, please contact problem report to Stardock's Technical Support.

Question:

? What can I do if I have Problems

Answer:

! First we would like to thank all our EEP users for all of their bug reports and suggestions. We like to hear from you and try to integrate as many suggestions into Object Desktop as possible.

Object Desktop is integrated very closely with the WorkPlaceShell but fortunately almost any part of Object Desktop can be turned on or off.

First you can have a look at these technical support pages. If the problem has disappeared, reactivate each program separately until you find the program, or combination of, that is causing the problems.

  • Performance Problems: Try closing out unneeded programs to reduce CPU activity.

Deleting old files from your TMP directory (to find out your tmp directory type SET TMP from a command line) can dramatically increase performance.

Uninstall any unwanted or unused features of Object Desktop. The less that is installed, the less resources are used.

No matter whether you could solve the problem or not please send us a mail describing the problem. Thank you!
