? When the screen is redrawing its window, Links hangs, what is the problem.
! Thanks to Brad Barclay, he has pointed out to us that many of these hangs are due to problems that the Window positions are not properly being saved in your OS2.INI file. Brad has been kind enough to write a REXX file that updates your OS2.INI file with uncorrupted window positions that eliminate these crashes. You can download his fix from linksfix.zip. This is not an officially supported fix.

? My Top View display is corrutped, what is the problem?
! This problem is caused by running with 16million colors. If you drop down to a lower color depth this problem will go away. This appears to be a problem only with the latest Matrox drivers. Apparently previous drivers do not exhibit this problem.

? Do you get random hangs in Links while you are playing?
! We haven't been able to deterim the cause of this problem but we have a suspicion that the problem lies somewhere in the Terrain Rendering. If you go into Links' Display Settings and turn off each of the options under Terrain Rendering (render full size, texture terrain, draw shadows), one at a time, you might be able to help us narrow down this problem. You might also try different configuration with the Terrain Detail settings as well.

Also, as mentioned in an early response we feel that Asynchronous Focus Change may be a factor in some of these problems. Turning off this feature may decrease the number of hangs.

Also, in Links FixKit 2 we have compiled Links without optimizing the code and this appears to have reduced some of the crashes that people have been reporting during game play. Please try the FixKit and let us know if you still have any problems or not with Links Crashing.

If you have a Aopen Crystal Audio CS4235 Driver or similar sound card you can try changing some of its driver settings to improve performance with Links which could eliminate some of the crashes:
This driver option may cure those stubborn hangs.
/IRQRate:dd Target interrupt rate *32 Range: 1..64 interrupts per second
Try changing thedefault of 32 to 48. This may also solve stuttering problems with other games as well.

? I have an ESS sound card and the sound is played very erractic at times.
! This is due to ESS drivers having problems supporting DART. The file essdrv.zip fixes this problem with the ESS 1688 cards. Were not sure if these drivers work for other versions but you are more than welcome to try it out and let us know of the results. Otherwise please contact the manufacturer of your computer or ESS to obtain new drivers.

? Other Sound Related Issues
!

If you have an ESS 1688 you can download essdrv.zip. These drivers do not have any information as to what cards they actually support but we have tried them on a the 1688 and they have solved some of these problems. If you have a different ESS card you may try these but we do not know if they will work. We suggest you backup your files before installing these drivers.

Warp v3 owners, we have some custom DART files that may help you get Links up and running. Download DAUDIO.ZIP and follow the instruction to update your AUDIOSH.DLL and AMPMXMCD.DLL files. These are custome files so even if they are older than your current files give these a try.

If you are using another sound card other than these listed above, please contact the manufacturer and ask them if they have any drivers that fully support DART.

We also recommend that you turn off Asynchronous Focus Change, in Warp v4 this can be found in your System properties.

If you feel that Links may be crashing due to sound problems try disabling the sound by downloading the FixKit and running LINKS.EXE /S to turn off sound.

? I have a Gravis Ultra Sound card and I am experiencing problems with Links?
! There have been several problems reported with Links with people using Gravis Ultra Sound cards; from sound not working, playing the Flyby's hang the game and the sound simply just not playing correctly. There are some new drivers available that fix some of these problems but we do not have a GUS card to test and verify this but please feel free to download the GUS Drivers and give them a whirl. Please let us know if these new drivers fix any of the problems you have been experiencing with Links.
