Releasing DesktopGPT with Template Editor

Today, we are releasing a significant update for DesktopGPT which is the easiest way to bring OpenAI’s latest models to your desktop. The update is rolling out now and you can manually search for the update by opening the configuration panel, clicking about, and then “Check for Updates”.
New in this release is our Template editor. This new feature makes it simple to create a template that allows you to quickly generate uniform outputs based on the inputs you define. Or less jargony, it's an easy way to create the same type of responses from whatever text you drop into the input field.
Out of the box, DesktopGPT includes several pre-made templates like Summarize, Cover Letter, Proofread, and chat. But the real power of these language models is making tools that help you accomplish specific tasks to your daily workflow.
With Template editor, you can easily create a template so that you don’t have to constantly re-write your prompt engineering to get a desired output. As an example, I have a template created that takes a body of text and summarizes the information, formats questions based on the text, and then outputs it into a format that can be put into a CSV so that it can be loaded into a quiz tool my daughter uses to prepare for tests and quizzes.
Another example is if you wanted to take a bunch of text, but have it sound like it was written by a pirate, templates are perfect for this. Typically, you would have to write a pre-prompt of something like “Take this body of text, keep the same formatting and tone but rewrite it so that it sounds like a pirate wrote it but keep it friendly and add a few puns”.
But with the Template editor, you can create a template that lets you design a workflow that will output a consistent format, and it can be used time and time again. The real value is built over time as you create templates that perform a singular task but can re-use them as needed without having to rework your pre-prompt each time.
Along with the new Template editor, there are improvements to user experience with a more consistent interface, reworking of underlying code to improve application efficiency, removal of the blue color from the response bar and a few other minor changes as well.
DesktopGPT is part of Object Desktop, you can learn more about the application on its app page or check out the entire award-winning suite here. And if you have any feedback, make sure to let us know as many of the features in this release were shaped by requests from the community.
