What is your most Effective Colony choice?

I have started out playing mostly the Expansive and Robotic colonies and most of my wins are from the Robotic choice because it is great not having to rely on making all the life support materials.

I failed miserably when I tried the Scientific colony...

Does anyone have preferences on what colonies are best to start with?
